Guests who wish may join the optional Kremlin Palace & Moscow Metro & Arbat & Nazım Hikmet’s Grave Tour. The Kremlin, where Russian President Vladimir Putin also has his working office, contains the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, considered Moscow’s most important church since the 14th century, as well as the world’s largest bell. We will continue our tour with the Moscow Metro. Started by Stalin in 1931, the Moscow Metro is considered by everyone to be the most beautiful metro in the world in terms of interior architecture and decoration, although it is often compared in size to the metros of New York, Paris, or London. Arbat Street, which runs through the center of Moscow, is a pedestrian street that everyone who visits the city stops by at least once and enjoys walking from one end to the other. Here you can browse the colorful shop windows, taste the finest examples of Russian and world cuisine, sit in elegant cafés that would not look out of place in Paris, and most pleasantly, sit on a bench and watch the Russians who are carried away by the flow of life. If you want a souvenir from Moscow, this street is the right place. Afterwards, we will continue our tour with Nazım Hikmet’s grave. We will depart from our hotel for a visit to Novodevichy Monastery, where Nazım Hikmet is also buried. Novodevichy, one of Russia’s most important monasteries, was founded in 1524 and over time became the place where many would-be tsarinas lost their star. Although Napoleon ordered its destruction in 1812, the nuns managed to prevent this decision. As part of the visit, we will go inside the monastery and visit Nazım Hikmet’s grave. After the tour, transfer to our hotel. Overnight at the hotel. DAY 3 MOSCOW – ST. PETERSBURG (TRAIN JOURNEY) After breakfast at our hotel, we check out of the rooms and transfer to the train station. Because it has the largest collection of paintings, it has also been included in the Guinness Book of Records. Then, accompanied by a guide, we will see St. Petersburg from its canals and begin our canal tour, extending to the Neva River. After the tour, we will continue with the Peter and Paul Fortress. Built by Peter in the 1700s, this fortress is the first structure constructed in St. Petersburg and is located on the Neva River. The cathedral inside the fortress contains the tombs of the Romanov Dynasty. At the end of the tour, transfer to our hotel. Overnight at the hotel. DAY 5 ST. PETERSBURG After breakfast, free time. Guests may join the optional “Peterhof and Pushkin Tsar Village Tours.” On this tour, we will have the opportunity to see the summer palace located in the Gulf of Finland, whose plans Peter himself drew and which he had built by the Italian architect Rastrelli. This palace is a magnificent palace complex rivaling Versailles in Paris, with 150 monumental fountains and gardens adorned by four waterfalls. Although it suffered major damage during World War II, it has been restored true to its original architecture and all its splendor. Afterwards, the park, palace, and building complex known as Tsar Village, built by Catherine in the 18th century, covers an area of 600 hectares, and its main building is Catherine Palace. The Amber Room here is highly interesting, though due to the crowds in summer, many tourists may not be able to visit it.
