After photo breaks, we visit Baku’s Nizami (Targovi) Street, which resembles Istanbul’s Istiklal Avenue. Targovi, one of the city’s liveliest and most popular areas, is the heart of Baku’s social life with its shops, boutiques, cafés, and restaurants. With its elegant buildings reflecting 19th-century European architecture and vibrant atmosphere, it is an ideal spot for both shopping and a pleasant walk. Our first stop is Gobustan National Park, located approximately 60 km south of Baku and included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. Mud Volcanoes, one of the natural wonders of Baku and its surroundings, are among Azerbaijan’s world-famous geological riches. It is estimated that there are about 700 mud volcanoes worldwide, and approximately 300 of them are in Azerbaijan. For this reason, Azerbaijan is one of the countries with the highest concentration of active mud volcanoes in the world. NASA geologists studying the planet Mars have even noted that the mud volcanoes in Azerbaijan structurally resemble Mars’ highlands. During the tour, we reach the area where the volcanoes are located. Here, we observe this natural wonder formed by hot mud and gas bubbles emerging from the ground. Mud volcanoes offer a unique landscape together with small eruptive mud cones and surrounding geological formations. Our guide explains in detail the formation process of the volcanoes, the geological structure of the region, and the historical and cultural importance of the volcanoes for the local people. After our Gobustan visit, we turn our route to the Haydar Aliyev Cultural Center, the symbol of modern Azerbaijan. Designed by world-famous architect Zaha Hadid, this structure is one of Baku’s most iconic buildings with its impressive curved form and extraordinary architecture. Inside the center, there are not only cultural and artistic exhibitions, but also a special classic automobile collection that attracts great interest from guests. Here, you can closely see and photograph impeccably restored Soviet classic vehicles from the 1940s to the 1970s, rare models from the USSR era such as Volga, Moskvich, and Chaika, former official state vehicles used in government protocol, and vintage automobiles of high collection value. This section of the museum offers a very impressive experience for both classic car enthusiasts and guests who love nostalgia.
